Dave Davis receives notice of his designation as Major Donor from Foundation President Jim Persons. President Jim's letter reads, in part; " Your assigned contact with our previous webmaster, and your evaluation of value received for value paid resulted in our canceling the contract, saving many dollars. You then designed and formulated arlingtonveterans.org, establishing it as our official website. You have maintained this website to date with yourself as webmaster. Additionally, you designed, developed and produced our official Video, which has been so effective in our fund raising and advertising. All these - pro bono!".
Dave's pro bono work exceeded the amount designated for a Major Sponsor, resulting in this designation

Former City Councilman Joe Bruner has been named vice president for development and marketing of the veterans memorial project. He brings with him big-time players Linda Di Mario, president and CEO of the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Jimmy Jones, former principal of Lamar High School, now enjoying retirement. All are active Rotarians, with Joe a past president of Arlington Rotary North.
It is my great pleasure to welcome them to the team.
Jim Persons
During his official club visit with the Great Southwest Rotary club, District Governor Dave Mason toured the construction at Veterans Park He attached an INFO BOX for benefit of park patrons.
Jason Burnam, a licensed electrician from Canyon, Texas, recently visited friends in the Arlington area. When he learned of the memorial in Veterans Park, he adjusted his schedule and volunteered his skills. A couple of hard days in the North Texas sun finished Jason's trip and he returned to Canyon. His assistance is greatly appreciated, and we wish him well.
Installation of lights lights was completed late this afternoon, or will be early tomorrow morning. Last concrete pour is scheduled for 1100 tomorrow. This will complete concrete work for Phases I & II. Basically, all that remains to complete Phase I is the installation of the terrazzo, hooking up the electricity, setting of the flag poles, smooth up ground work around the area, lay sod (2 wide) around the concrete and install the pavers. Folks - we just rounded the last pole and are headed for the wire! (7/19/07)
Significant progress is occurring, despite the inclement weather. Construction crews have made the most of fair-weather periods as Phases I and II really take shape. (7/17/07)
Have had a couple of folks today asking abot construction news on the web site. Mea culped and said I'd see what can be done. Tho't we'd post a water picture and tell about our rain woes and/or something else to get the idea across. Opening date?? When will it quit raining etc
Concrete Is In The Ground!!

Ceremonial Flag Raising at Veterans Park

Great Southwest Rotary established the Arlington Veterans Park Foundation to facilitate the development of a memorial to honor those who served in the armed forces of the United States. The memorial, in the city’s Veterans Park, will be a place where people may reflect on the contributions of these so honored and recognize those who made the supreme sacrifice in combat. A joint outreach of Rotary and the community, the memorial will be fully accessible and scaled both to allow for individual meditation and to be a gathering space for special events.

Veterans Park, located at 3600 West Arkansas Lane in Arlington, has been steadily improved over the years. Today there are walking trails, a pavilion, a xeriscape garden and a frisbee golf course for the benefit of, and enjoyment of, residents of Arlington and its adjacent communities.
The Park, however, has not adequately recgonized the contributions and sacrifices of our veterans, and support and sacrifices made by their families.
A proposal for a memorial to recognize these veterans and their families has been approved by the Great Southwest Rotary Board of Directors. The concept is to provide a gathering place dedicated to all veterans from Arlington and its adjacent communities, and to pay tribute to these service persons and their families. This memorial will provide permanent recognition of and signal our deep appreciation and respect for those who served in the Armed Forces of the United States and died protecting our freedom.

Our Board of Directors approved the proposal, committees were appointed, and planning began. Because of the size and scope of this project, construction must be done in phases.
